- Where is Central Scotland EV Specialist based?
- Central Scotland EV Specialist is an independent electric vehicle, hybrid and mild-hybrid (MHEV) workshop near Stirling, Central Scotland (FK12 area). The exact workshop address is provided to customers and referring workshops on booking — it is a purpose-built facility with manufacturer-level diagnostic, high-voltage and electronic repair tooling.
- What sort of work do you actually take on?
- Electric and electrified vehicles — the complex end. High-voltage battery capacity, cell-balance and isolation testing, battery management system (BMS) faults, EV charging faults, inverter, DC-DC converter and electric-motor diagnostics, regenerative-braking and thermal-management issues, 48V mild-hybrid (MHEV) systems, plus gateway-authenticated ECU and module coding on EVs, full hybrids and PHEVs. We do not take on routine servicing, tyres, exhausts or general mechanical work.
- Do you take subcontract diagnostic work from other garages?
- Yes — and it is a substantial part of our work. Independent garages, main dealers and fleet workshops refer EV, hybrid and MHEV vehicles to us when the fault is outside their own scope or beyond their high-voltage capability. We operate professionally as a referred specialist: technician-to-technician communication throughout, a documented diagnostic report on completion, a clear written quote before work begins, and an agreed turnaround. We do not contact your customer and we do not offer a competing retail price.
- My EV won't charge — can you find the fault?
- Yes. EV charging faults are core work for us. We trace no-charge and reduced-charge faults to the on-board charger, the control-pilot (CP) circuit, the charge port, the connector or the vehicle's high-voltage system — using live data and measurement rather than guesswork. We diagnose both AC and DC rapid-charging faults, charge-current derating and home-charger compatibility issues.
- Can you test a high-voltage battery and read state of health?
- Yes. We carry out high-voltage battery capacity, cell-balance and isolation-resistance testing, read state of health and individual module/cell data through the BMS, and pinpoint weak cells or failing modules behind lost range, reduced power and battery warning lights. All carried out under a full CAT III high-voltage safety procedure.
- Do you work on mild-hybrid (MHEV) and full hybrid systems?
- Yes. 48V mild-hybrid belt-starter generator, 48V lithium battery and DC-DC converter diagnostics, plus full hybrid and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) inverter, electric-motor and energy-management faults. Start-stop, coasting, torque-assist and limp-mode issues read with manufacturer-level tooling most general workshops cannot access.
- Is it safe — what about high-voltage safety?
- All high-voltage work is carried out under a full CAT III safety procedure — correct PPE, isolation, verification of zero potential, discharge and lock-out before any HV circuit is accessed. We have the equipment, training and discipline to work safely on traction systems most workshops will not touch.
- Can you code and programme modules after a repair?
- Yes. We hold the live online manufacturer authentication accounts required to open security gateways and read, code, programme and replace ECUs and control modules in-house — including battery, charging and drivetrain modules on modern EVs and hybrids. For many referring garages, gateway-authenticated coding is the primary reason a vehicle is sent to us.
- What information helps you scope a job up front?
- Vehicle year, make, model, variant, mileage and full VIN or registration. A clear description of symptoms — when the fault occurs, under what conditions, and whether it is consistent or intermittent (e.g. only on rapid charge, only when cold, only under load). Any fault codes already retrieved, plus battery state-of-health or charging data if available. What has already been tested or replaced, and the results. For trade referrals, the previous workshop's notes save significant time.
- Do you take vehicles from outside Central Scotland?
- Yes. Customers and referring workshops travel to Central Scotland EV Specialist from across Scotland — Stirling, Falkirk, Perth, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee, Aberdeen and further — for EV, hybrid and MHEV work other independents cannot perform, particularly high-voltage battery diagnostics, charging faults and gateway-authenticated coding. For longer distances, collection and delivery can be arranged — ask when you call.
